Beautiful pendant light designed by Alf Svensson & Yngvar Sandström for Bergboms Sweden in the fifties. Two-tone plastic lampshade in Chocolate brown and white Rotaflex (cellulose acetate) with brass detail and a white plastic canopy.The name Rotaflex refers to a patented method of spinning a thread of cellulose acetate around a mould; lampshades of this material give a soft and diffuse glow. Rotaflex lights were developed by a number of companies in Europe and the United States in the mid-20th century, including ARP in France (founded by Guariche, Motte & Mortier), Rotaflex in the UK (where John and Sylvia Reid produced a number of designs) and Bergboms in Sweden, where this piece was found. In a very good condition with only minor traces of use. Diameter 38 cm (15′) and 36 cm (14.2′) high. |
